Vegetable prices rose 6.6 percent in last month, according to the latest figures released by Statistics New Zealand.
Contributing significantly to this increase were tomatoes, (rising 64.8 percent) and oranges, (12.8 percent).
Meat, fish and poultry prices recorded a fall of 0.1 percent in May. The most significant downward contribution came from lower beef prices (down 2.2 percent). These falls were partly offset by higher prices for poultry (up 3.6 percent) and pork (up 1.2 percent).
