Food prices rise 6.8% May 08-09

Statistics NZ reported this week that food prices have increased by 6.8% from the year May 2008 to May 2009. Meat, poultry and fish prices were unchanged overall last month, although the price of poultry rose by 3.1%, and the price of beef fell by 6.7%.
Fruit and vegetable prices fell by 2.6%, with mandarins down 45.3%, lettuce down 18.9%, and kiwifruit down 49.8%. Dry good prices rose by 1%, and the price of yoghurt has fallen by 5.7%.
