The days of selling burgers and soft drinks on your
kids menu may be numbered!

A minimum legal age for being able to eat such food is one of
a number of ideas floated in a Ministry of Health discussion
document that aims to restrict children’s access to food considered
unhealthy. Health officials have also suggested that it be made
illegal to sell junk food to children!

One group wants soft drinks, pies, sweets and chocolate included
in the controlled category of the Public Health Bill which will
replace the 1956 Health Act.

A study in Auckland two years ago found that one in seven primary
school age children was obese and experts say the figure will
now be even higher.

Menu Du Jour recently created menus for a school cafeteria eliminating
pies and deep fried food. This menu is now subject for the National
Heart Foundation tick award.

Menu Du Jour works closely with a registered dietitian to enable
menus to be tailored to national guidelines for cafeterias and
institutional catering.
